BLOG: TOP TIPS FOR TEST DRIVING YOUR NEW CAR
Take note of these handy tips to ensure your new car is the right fit for you ...
IT’S AN EXCITING MOMENT WHEN YOU GO DOWN TO YOUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND ASK TO TEST DRIVE A CAR THAT YOU’VE BEEN EYEING OFF, FOR SOME TIME.
It’s not uncommon for many people to find the car buying experience to be unnerving because they simply don’t know what they should be looking for. Usually, there is more than what meets the eye because every model is designed to suit different people. To ensure all our customers are buying the most suitable car for themselves, we have come up with a few handy tips to remember when test-driving a vehicle.
Drive on familiar roads
Our very first tip for test driving your next car is to drive on familiar roads that you know. This allows you to properly asses the noises, vibrations and harshness levels of the test vehicle across the varying surfaces you know. When you drive on roads you’re familiar with, it’s easier to focus on the driving performance and ride quality.
When you walk into a dealership you probably have some idea of what you’re looking for, as well as the exact model you want to test. We advise that you definitely test-drive the model your research but also test drive other vehicles to compare your ideal car against. There’s no point in test-driving one car and comparing it to your 7-year old car. Set aside more time to test drive a few models to ensure the car you buy is the best option for you!
Bring a passenger
Bringing a friend or family member along for your test drive is beneficial in a few ways. Firstly, it gives you a second opinion and perspective to your choices, benefits and limitations. Secondly, it allows you to take a ride in the passenger seats and inspect other areas of the car.
Use the widgets and gadgets
It’s good to familiarise yourself with all the widgets and gadgets within the car. Why not try out the Bluetooth connection and see how your phone call quality is and the music connectivity. Also play around with the reverse display cameras and heated seats. This is called ‘Try before you Buy’ and we encourage you to test it all!
Make sure that the car you are test-driving suits the lifestyle you have. Compare the size of the boot space to your everyday and weekend activities to ensure you have enough room. If you can, take it home to see if the car fits your luggage and even check to see if it fits in your garage (without damages of course).
Drive for a minimum of 30 minutes
It takes time for you to really asses the dozens of cars you’ve booked in to test drive. It’s hard to expect that you’ll love a car within 5 minutes. If you can, drive for a minimum of 30 minutes and take notes of your likes and dislikes. This will be a handy reference to look at when you make your decision later.
Buying a new car is a pivotal and monumental moment for most. So, while it’s easy to get bewildered by all the features of a new car, make sure you are evaluating your options properly. Implement these tips into your next test-drive to ensure you’re driving away happy. Better yet, ask one of our Tony White group specialists on their suggestion for a car that suits you!
