NEWS: HYUNDAI CREATES LIFE-CHANGING TECHNOLOGY FOR HEARING-IMPAIRED DRIVERS

Hyundai Motor Group has revealed new technology that will assist and enhance the driving experience of hearing-impaired motorists ...

FREEDOM OF MOBILITY IS HYUNDAI MOTOR GROUP’S GOAL WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS DRIVER ASSIST TECHNOLOGY

Being dependant on sight and touch is a daily occurrence for hearing impaired drivers. Hyundai engineers have recognised this common practice within their hearing-impaired market and have developed a new way to expand the freedom of mobility for physically limited drivers.

The technology developed uses artificial intelligence to analyse external sound patterns. Thus, two driver assist systems were created to work together to alert the hearing-impaired driver. These systems are called:

  1. Audio-Visual Conversion (AVC)
  2. Audio-Tactile Conversion (ATC)

AVC creates a safer driving experience by using pictogram display visuals to alert the driver of external environment variables. For example, the sound of an emergency vehicle siren is picked up by the AVC system and displays a picture of this for the driver to be aware of.

ATC uses sound data and creates vibrations in the steering wheel, notifying the driver of the distance from external environment obstacles.

Hyundai Motor Group have created a campaign around this new technology called ‘Quiet Taxi.’ The motor company published a documentary-style video that aspires to give hope to hearing limited customers. Building the bridge between hearing-impaired drivers and safety technology sets the Hyundai brand apart from other automotive manufacturers.
